Project Details
Description
Globally, nationally and regionally, palliative care needs are increasing, with projections set to increase this demand in the coming decades (WHO 2022). Palliative care is delivered by a diverse range of health care professionals regionally, with nurses central to care delivery (Beck et al. 2019).
Research highlights the pivotal role that the nurse plays in the delivery of palliative care, across a wide range of settings and specialities. Evidence suggests that nurses delivering palliative and end of life care require support, especially those working in generalist palliative care roles (Gardiner and Bolton, 2023; Huijten, 2023). Research also proposes the potential benefits of networking for healthcare professionals, including nurses (McGivern 2019; Nair 2016). It is proposed that this event will enable nurses, working across palliative care in Northern Ireland, to network and collaborate, and forge lasting relationships.
It will also allow them to hear directly from those they care for, with PPI representation central to the theme and purpose of the conference.
In addition, representation from policy, research and academia will facilitate those working in clinical practice to engage with these groups.
