Description
The adoption of the African Union's Transitional Justice Policy in 2019 has highlighted the necessity for fostering stronger collaboration between African transitional justice practitioners and policymakers. The Policy has resulted in the expansion of civil society organisations, state institutions and regional organisations involved and invested in justice interventions on the continent. Nonetheless, many of those organisations and government officials engaged in transitional justice interventions rely on staff with backgrounds in a range of disciplines, but who have seldom received specific training in atrocity crimes and transitional justice. It will be a central objective of the African Transitional Justice Research Network to address these needs by facilitating policy relevant research attuned to the particular challenges currently facing local African practitioners and policy makers.
