Project Details
Description
All research will be completed by Dr Sabrina Demirdjian (PhD researcher at NICHE, Ulster University as required for fulfilment of the award of PhD).
3.Using data and samples from the MOVITD study, we will investigate the influence of overweight and obesity on a range of iron biomarkers and inflammatory markers throughout pregnancy (12, 28 and 36 gestational weeks). Markers of interest will include haemoglobin, serum ferritin, transferrin saturation, soluble transferrin receptor, erythroferrone, erythropoietin, hepcidin, leptin, IL6, IL22, along with other agreed markers of interest.
4.Based on the finding of objectives 1-3, we will co-design (with the Active Iron team), an RCT in pregnant women to examine the influence of iron supplementation in women most at risk of low iron status during pregnancy and postnatally.
