Description

SMEs often face significant challenges in their digital transformation journey, particularly in border regions of Ireland which face a unique set of challenges due to the complex political and economic landscape. Limited access to finance, infrastructure, and skilled labour, lack of technical expertise, and data security concerns can hinder their ability to invest in and implement new technologies. Additionally, resistance to change within the organisation and the complexity of integrating new systems with existing ones can further complicate the process. These challenges can hinder growth and competitiveness, making it difficult for small businesses to reap the benefits of digitalisation, necessitating that SMEs in Northern Ireland and border regions of Ireland seek support and implement innovative digitialisation strategies to overcome these challenges. The objective of this project is to support SMEs on their digital transformation journey, embracing digital technology, data analytics, artificial intelligence and automation thus enabling them to become more innovative, competitive and productive. E-DATA’s services and activities will enable SMEs to gain impartial advice, consultation, expertise, and fully support SMEs in implementing digital transformation projects. Example projects may include analysis of energy usage and carbon outputs to reduce costs and drive towards sustainability, improved visibility of business assets through deployment of IoT solutions, data analysis for process and product improvements. Thus, digitalisation expertise, not normally accessible to an individual SME, will be provided at no cost and supplemented with business support to accelerate an SME’s digitalisation trajectory, overcoming digitalisation challenges and providing a clear pathway to be more self-sustaining.
