Enhancing the fire safety of Li-ion batteries: a focus on the thermal degradation characteristics and combustion attributes of the electrolyte system

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

Dr Svetlana Tretsiakova-McNally, Ulster University (UU), UK, will visit her current collaborator, Dr Paul Joseph, Victoria University (VU), Australia. The aim is to carry out laboratory-based experiments and testing, to improve fire safety of electrolytes used in Li-ion batteries (LIBs). This study is timely and important, given the severe fire hazards of LIBs in the realm of electric vehicles becoming a sustainable mode of transportation. The outcomes are highly valuable to chemistry and fire safety communities in both the UK and Australia. The project will strengthen and widen collaborative interdisciplinary and international network between the researchers at UU and VU.
