BloodTrackR service

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

Blood collection to monitor the health of clinical trial participants, or patients with long term health conditions is difficult and costly to do. It usually requires an individual to travel to a specialised clinical centre with qualified blood collection staff (phlebotomist), who withdraw blood from the arm using vacutainer needles and blood tubes. Our novel idea is BloodTracKR, a user friendly app and smart medical device service which can be used at home to safely collect a blood sample, without need for travel or specialist staff. The device filters the blood sample and stabilises it to preserve clinically important biomarkers. The device also records the date and time of the blood sample and via an accompanying mobile app can collect other symptom, medication or clinically relevant information alongside the blood sample. It can also record sample temperature in transit if required for quality assurance or proof that the sample integrity has not been compromised.
