Project: Research

Project Details

Description

This project will aim to examine how primary schools in Northern Ireland (NI) and the Republic of Ireland (ROI) can support pupils who are both English as an Additional Language (EAL) learners and who also have Special Educational Needs (SEN). Pupils who have both EAL and SEN tend to present more complex and intersecting challenges for schools, teachers, and stakeholders. This study will focus on examining and reporting on the systems, structures, practices, and resources used in both the NI and ROI jurisdictions, and specifically on the following: Induction activities for EAL/SEN pupils Processes of identification and assessment of needs Teacher-based and classroom supports Internal school supports and engagement with external agencies Monitoring and assessment opportunities and strategies
