In 2014 Billy was awarded a Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship, which he held as a postdoctoral research fellow at Queen's University Belfast (between 2014 and 2017). During the tenure of this award Billy's research focused upon the effects of faunal species loss upon the functioning of coastal ecosystems. Total award value £87,000.
