Creating opportunities to promote inclusion of young people in decision making strategies and dialogue activities encourages participation and a deeper understanding of equality and diversity. This requires recognition of the diverse range of voices which reflect citizenship and a sense of belonging. It is important that young people are supported with tools and resources that develop their competencies in taking action, advocating and getting involved in meaningful discussions on policy and practice.
The focus will be on understanding a rights-based approach to participation and civic engagement to enable young people to contribute positively to society and recognise their potential as agents for change. Students will examine the essential features of meaningful participation (space, voice, audience and influence).
