Overview

Dr Zahoor Khan is a Research Associate in Soil Enzymology within the School of Biomedical Sciences at Ulster University. He holds a PhD in Microbiology and brings expertise in enzymology, molecular biology, and nanotechnology.

Prior to his current role, Dr Khan worked as an Application Scientist at Formulatrix Inc., where he managed the ultrafiltration product portfolio and its applications in life sciences. He also held a Pre-Doctoral Research Fellowship at Oregon State University, USA, contributing to projects in enzymology and pharmaceutical sciences.

At Ulster University, Dr Khan’s research focuses on how soil enzyme activity influences soil health, nutrient cycling, and carbon dynamics. His work contributes to the development of sustainable agricultural practices and supports ecosystem resilience under climate stress.

With over a decade of experience across academia and industry, Dr Khan has contributed to innovations in microbial process development, enzyme optimization, and the use of bio-based alternatives to reduce reliance on synthetic chemicals. His interdisciplinary work spans applications in environmental science, industrial biotechnology, and nanobiotechnology.

Dr Khan actively collaborates with academic, industrial, and environmental partners, leveraging his expertise to advance global efforts in microbial biotechnology, sustainability, and enzyme-based technologies.
