Personal profile

Billy Hunter is an aquatic ecologist and a Lecturer in Environmental Science at Ulster University (Northern Ireland). His research investigates how environmental change affects ecosystem functioning across a range of aquatic environments from alpine streams to the deep-sea.This includes how the impacts of pharmaceuticals and algal biotoxins upon ecosysem functioning; how biodiversity loss and ocean warming affects carbon cycling in coastal sediments (Leverhulme Trust); the transport and biogeochemical fate of fine sediments and organo-mineral particles in inland waters (Bio-ERODS project, EU FP7); and how changes in oxygen organic matter availability affect carbon and nitrogen cycling pathways in deep-sea sediments (as part of the SIBER and EU's HERMIONE projects).
