Personal profile

Biography

My research interests are biodiversity, physiology and ecology. I have worked as a field based marine biologist for 12 years, 10 of those for The British Antarctic Survey and then recently for Ulster University as a post doc working on the marine protected areas of Northern Ireland. I have skills and capabilities in both field and lab based marine biological research. My research has looked at the effect of climate change on sub tidal benthic communities on the Antarctic Peninsula with respect to sea ice loss and increased sea water temperature. My current post will look at benthic quantification, biodiversity and monitoring for 7 cross boarder Marine Protected Areas off of the north of Ireland www.mpa-management.eu.

I have extensive scienitific diving experience having logged 800 dives of which over 500 of them were polar dives. I also have alot of experience working from large research vessiles in both The Antarctic and The Arctic carrying out trawls, grabs, multicores, and CTDs. I will now be carrying out ROV, Drop Camera and Baited camera work from the Celtic Explorer
