Tanya is a Professor of Nursing R&D in the School of Nursing and Paramedic Science, Faculty of Life and Health Sciences, Ulster University. She is an internationally recognised leader in person‑centred practice and her career spans clinical practice, academia, and health and social care, with a sustained focus on integrating practice, education, and research. Grounded in the Person‑centred Practice Framework, her programme of research has advanced a robust theoretical and practical foundation for person‑centred practice. 

Through the development of person‑centred key performance indicators, she has provided a rigorous means of articulating and evidencing the distinctive contribution of nursing to patient, family, and system outcomes. Tanya’s work also includes technological innovation. The iMPAKT App, developed under her leadership, enables real‑time capture of patient experience and translation of these insights into actionable improvements in practice, supporting large‑scale implementation of person‑centred metrics.

Tanya’s work reflects a deep passion for nursing and a steadfast commitment to fostering person-centred practice that enhances the experiences of patients, families, and healthcare teams globally. Her contributions have been recognised by her peers by being awarded the Royal College of Nursing Nurse of the Year Outstanding Achievement Award and her selection as one of 70 influential nurses and midwives in 70 years of the NHS.
