Biography

With a background in both art practice and writing about art, Suzanna Chan lectures in art history and theory. Following a period of working and exhibiting as an artist, with a practice principally focused on painting, she went on to undertake a written PhD, completed in 2002.In the Belfast School of Art she teaches history and theory on the foundation course, the BA fine art course, the Masters of fine art course, and supervises PhDs. Research interests include contemporary and modern art and cultural practices; and feminist, postcolonial, poststructuralist and psychoanalytical theories.She is currently completing a book exploring aesthetic, ethical, historical and political relations between migration, diaspora and contemporary art by women .  Published works include several articles and book chapters on articulations and representations of identity, gender, ‘race’, history and place in art and cultural practices.
