Biography

Stanley McGreal was appointed Professor of Property Research in 1998 and was Director of the Built Environment Research Institute, Ulster University over the period 2006 – 2017. Professor McGreal has been involved in major research contracts funded by government departments and agencies, the European Commission, research councils, charities and the private sector. Analysis of housing, urban renewal strategies, regeneration and the property investment market have been central themes of his research with particular implications for policy and delivery mechanisms. Professor McGreal has over 300 published works and has been an invited speaker at several conferences, he holds membership of a number of editorial boards of leading journals and serves on various international committees. Professor McGreal's research on housing has been recognized through a number of international awards including in 2011 the best paper prize on Real Estate Cycles awarded by the American Real Estate Society for manuscript on List Price and Sales Price of Residential Properties During Booms and Busts. He was awarded the European Real Estate Society Service Award in 2006, the International Real Estate Society Service Award in 2007, the International Real Estate Society Achievement Award in 2017, and the Pacific Rim Real Estate Society Achievement Award in 2018. Stanley McGreal has held a number of external appointments and currently is an Adjunct Professor, University of South Australia. He was Managing Editor of the Journal of European Real Estate Research from 2009-2017. Professor McGreal is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
