Ryan is a Post-Doctoral Research Associate in Marine Science based in the School of Geography and Environmental Sciences in Ulster University. His research focuses on investigating variation in the spatial and temporal distribution of the common skate species complex as well as reviewing novel non-invasive methods of monitoring Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). Ryan's previous research experience involved developing biophysical models intended to improve sustainable fisheries management. He also investigated the impacts of ocean warming on physiological processes of the commercially important Norway lobster.
