Biography

Dr. Robert Eadie joined Ulster University in 2008 and has since served in a number of roles.

He is currently the MSc Civil and Infrastructure Engineering Programme director and Academic Lead for Civil Engineering Apprentices. He was previously the MEng/ BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering Programme Director for both the full-time and part-time variants of the course, having put together the documentation for the MEng course in the 2008/2009 academic year. He was also responsible for putting together the course documentation for the first MEng Civil Engineering Apprenticeship in Northern Ireland and the only one in the UK to Level 7. He got this recognised by the Joint Board of Moderators when he lead Ulster University Accreditation for Civil Engineering with the Joint Board of Moderators in 2022.

During his Academic studies he won the IStructE prize for best student in Structural Studies at HNc level, the Association for Project Management Prize for the Best Student and Lafarge Ireland Prize for Literature Review and Dissertation at MSc level followed by the Wiley Prize for Best Literature Review at PhD level.  

Prior to his move into Academia he worked for Kirk McClure Morton, the RNLI and Roads Service over a period of 20 years, in consultancy, on site and in the public sector.

His PhD was related to e-procurement in construction, and his research focuses on BIM, procurement and pedagogy. Additionally He has an Honorary Doctorate from the European Technical University in Pernik Bulgaria for research work in Building Information Modelling.

He is a Fellow of Engineers Ireland, Past Chair of Northern Region, a Past Council Member and represents them on the Professional College of Construction Industry Professionals Council CPCNI which lobbies government on Industry needs.

He is a Chartered Committee Member of CIHT Northern Ireland currently serving as Third Level Liaison.

He was only the second Chair of the Association of Civil Engineering Departments from Northern Ireland in its history in 2024. This body represents over 60 UK Universities that teach Civil Engineering.

He is currently a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) since 2017 having previously been a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy since 2010.

He has had Full Membership of the Association for Project Management (MAPM) in Northern Ireland since 2006.

He is a Senior Member of the Universal Association of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineers. and a member of the Association of Researchers in Construction Management.  

He was Elected a Honourable Member of the Bulgarian Scientific Union of Civil Engineering in 2018. 

He received a Ulster University Distinguished Teaching Fellowship (Team Award) for the introduction of Building Information Modelling in 2016.

He has over eighty peer-reviewed academic publications.
