Biography

Dr Raymond Beirne graduated with first class honours and completed his pre-registration training at Manchester Royal Eye hospital. He teaches clinical optometry across a variety of modules on the BSc(Hons) Optometry and Master of Optometry courses. Dr Beirne is the course director for the Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Retina. 

Dr Beirne has a PhD in visual pyschophysics and his research is focused on how the macular pigment influences visual performance in healthy individuals and those with age-related macular degeneration. He has obtained research funding from the College of Optometrists and the Macular Society.

Raymond is an examiner for the College of Optometrists and an editorial board member of the professional development journal "Acuity".
