Dr Patrick Naughton gained his PhD in Microbiology from the University of Aberdeen. He completed a post-doctoral position at the Rowett Institute, Aberdeen before moving to the Foulum Research Centre, Denmark .He took up his first academic post within Ulster University and was promoted to Senior Lecturer in Medical Microbiology in 2008. Patrick was appointed Subject Head (Biomedical Sciences) in 2006 a role in which he continued until 2013. Currently, he is Fellow of the Institute of Biomedical Science, Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.With over 15 years’ experience in research and teaching he has more than 70 research outputs. He is a regular reviewer for journals in the field of Microbiology (Pathogenicity and Infection) and provides grant reviews for a number of research funders including the MRC and ANR.
Research Interests: Bacterial dietary interactions; Salmonella pathogenicity; Probiotics and Prebiotics; Surface Active Molecules; Antibiotic Resistance.
Teaching interests: Medical Microbiology;General Microbiology;Pathophysiology;Biomedical Professional Practice; Study Skills.
Administrative roles: Course Director for the MSc Biomedical Science; Module coordinator for modules: Pathophysiology, Professional Practice in Healthcare Science; Quality Management.
