Orla is a DEL funded PhD researcher in psychology, and has recently submitted her PhD thesis in February 2019. She is also  a BPS accredited psychological wellbeing practitioner(PWP), and was awarded a distinction in the MSc applied psychology: mental health and psychological therapies.  Her primary research interests lie in the field of mental health. Her doctoral research has focused on evaluating the effectiveness of low-intensity cognitive behavioural therapy (PWP service) for mild to moderate mental health difficulties in Northern Ireland. Results of this evalution have been peer reviewed and published. Orla has also carried out and published research relating to the prevalence of medically unexplained symptoms, and has recently completed a systematic review in this area. Orla is also interested in qualitative research methods, and has carried out work in relation to the effectiveness of health services and the effects of suicide bereavement. Orla has presented at several conferences and was awarded the NIBPS postgraduate prize for oral presentation in 2016 in relation to her work on suicide bereavement.   In relation to teaching, Orlahas  been awarded the Associate Fellowship of the HEA, and has  experience of delivering lectures, facilitating skills labs and assessment/marking. She has worked largely on the MSc applied psychology and psychological therapies, in particular, with trainee PWPs for which she is also qualified as clinical case management supervisor. She also has experience teaching social psychology and research methods to undergraduate students, and lectured in health and social care and psychology at the NWRC before commencing doctoral studies.
