Personal profile

Research Interests

My interests are focused on the area of arts and health research, specifically chronic pain communication and visualising pain.

This has extended to arts-based methods of mark-making, poetry, painting and drawing within the context of communicating chronic pain experience. I am also interested in the therapeutic benefits of such activities within a health context, which borders art therapy theory and art psychotherapy. Mental health, isolation, guilt and lonliness are also included in my research interests, alongside mental health experience of clinical providers.

Prior to beginning this PhD, I completed an MFA in Contemporary Arts Practice, a BA in Fine Art, a Foundation degree in Art and Design and a Level 3 diploma in Business Management. I have recieved a 2nd place award in Northern Ireland Yound Artist of the Year, had the role of co-director within an artist-led organisation and exhibited within the UK and Ireland, most recently at the Centre for Contemporary Arts, Derry/Londonderry. I continue to create commission based artwork, mostly in the medium of oil paint.
