Biography

Dr Ngozi Anyadike-Danes joined the Criminology and Criminal Justice (CCJ) team at Ulster University (UU) in January 2024 and is an Associate Fellow of the HEA. She completed a BSc (Hons) in Criminology and Criminal Psychology in 2010 at the University of Greenwich and a Masters in Behavioural Science (Research) in 2018 at Radboud Universiteit. Ngozi completed her Ph.D. in Psychology in 2023 at Ulster University.

Prior to joining the CCJ team at UU, Ngozi was a postdoctoral researcher at UU within the School of Psychology. The Consent, Sexual Violence, Harassment and Equality in Higher Education (COSHARE) project was funded by the HEA’s Shared Island Initiative. The overall aim of this project was to produce an all-island strategy to surveying staff about their experiences and perspectives on consent, sexual violence and harassment (C-SVH) in HE across the island of Ireland (north and south) as well as facilitating knowledge exchange between academics and professionals.

Research Interests

Ngozi’s Ph.D. focused on the extent to which comprehension of consent impacts the outcomes of unwanted sexual experiences of university students in Northern Ireland. Her Masters’ research examined how perceptions of sexual predators are influenced by rape myths. Her undergraduate research evaluated the extent to which female perpetrated sexual violence is represented in legislation.

Her primary research interests concern sexual consent knowledge and understanding; gender-based violence; unwanted and/or non-consensual sexual experiences; rape myth acceptance; attitudes, beliefs and opinions that contribute to decision making in sexual offence trials; designing measurement tools that explore sexual victimization; participatory research methods; and the intersections between psychology, law and the criminal justice system.
