Biography
Michael Moore is Reader Fine and Applied Arts, Ceramics. Michael is a member of the International Academy of Ceramics and a Higher Education Authority Fellow. He holds a Master of Arts Degree from The National College of Art and Design, Dublin and is a registered maker with the UK and Irish Craft Councils. Michael also holds a Pg. Cert in Training from the Education Faculty of the National University of Ireland.
He has works in permanent collections in the National Museum of Ireland, the Ulster Museum, Keramion, Germany, The Mark Rothko Foundation, Latvia, The Icheon World Ceramics Foundation, Korea, the New Taipei Ceramics Museum, Taiwan, and the Australian National University. He has been artist in residence at the Clay Studio and the Archie Bray Foundation in the USA, The Medalta Centre and The Banff Centre for the Arts in Canada, the International Ceramics Research Centre in Denmark, the International Ceramics Studio in Hungary and the Fuping Ceramics Studios in China.
In 2014 Michael was Chair of the General Assembly of the International Academy Ceramics In Dublin Castle. In 2017 Michael Co. Curated ‘The Shadow of Sodeisha’ at the National Museum of Ireland, which examined the influence of the Sodeisha Group on contemporary Japanese and Irish Ceramics.
Michael‘s research practice is mainly studio based with some conference and text based publications with a focus on the history of Irish Studio Ceramics and the broader Craft Movement. Michael has been the recipient of grants and awards from the Design and Crafts Council of Ireland, (including the 2013 National Craft Bursary), The Arts Council of Northern Ireland, Culture Ireland, Creative Europe and the Japan Foundation.
In 1999 Michael was elected as a member of the International Academy of Ceramics(IAC), in 2006 he was elected to Council of the IAC to represent the UK, Ireland and the Benelux Countires until 2012, in 2010 he became Honorary Treasurer of the IAC until 2016. In 2017 Michael's piece ‘Flow’ won Jurors Prize at the Concorso Internazionale Della Ceramics d’Arte, Gualdo Tadino, in Italy.
In 2018 Michael's research was published in the peer reviewed Artaxis website for Ceramics and Sculpture and also in 2018, Michael began a new series of works titled 'Fragments's at the Intonation Ceramics Symposium in Deidesheim, Germany. Again in Germany Michael's Ceramics has been selected for the 'Grand Anniversary Exhibition, Contemporary Ceramic Art of the World, Members of the Academie Internationale de la Ceramique from 60 Countries' at Galerie Marianne Heller in Heidelberg, Sept. 2018.

In 2019 Michael exhibited at the 'Transversalitats en Ceramica Contemporania' (juried selection), Barcelona, supported by the Dept. del Cultura, Catalonia.
In 2021 Michael was selected as a Peer Mentor for the Design and Crafts Council of Ireland.
Also in Sept. 2021, Michael will showcase his new collection of works in the solo exhibition ‘Intersect’ at the Marketplace Theatre and Arts Centre, Armagh, Northern Ireland.
