Biography

Matthew Kearney is a Lecturer in Marketing, Course Director, and Director of Combined Studies (Magee) in the Department of Global Business & Enterprise at Ulster University's Business School. Matthew obtained an Undergraduate Honours Degree in Business with Psychology before progressing to Doctoral Research at Ulster University, focusing on compulsive buying behaviour. He began lecturing in 2011. After a period as a Lecturer in Marketing at the Newcastle Business School at Northumbria University, Matthew returned to Ulster University in 2013, taking up a position there as a Lecturer in Marketing. Matthew was awarded a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education Practice in 2016, and subsequently gained Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy. He has also been nominated for an Excellence in Teaching Award at Ulster. Matthew’s main research areas focus on consumer behaviour, consumer psychology, guerrilla marketing, digital marketing and tourism. He has also undertaken a range of pedagogic research, with a particular focus on how technology can improve the student learning experience. Included in previous Research Excellence assessments, Matthew’s research has been published in internationally excellent journals, book chapters, and conference proceedings. Matthew also engages regularly in consultancy projects, and his research and expert opinion feature in hundreds of national and international media outlets.

Matthew’s main research interetsts focus on consumer behaviour, consumer psychology, guerrilla marketing, digital marketing and tourism. He has also undertaken a range of pedagogic research, with a particular focus on how technology can improve the student learning experience.
