Biography

Laura Morgan is the Course Director for the BSc (Hons) Accounting with Management (Part-time/Degree Apprenticeship) programme on the Belfast Campus.

Since joining the University in 2018, she has been a module co-ordinator across various under-graduate and post-graduate programmes, engaging a diverse student body, including full-time and part-time students, apprentices and professionals. She also delivered block teaching for PwC academies.

She is a Chartered Accountant and member of Chartered Accountants Ireland. Prior to joining the University in 2018, she worked in private practice. Her most recent role was Audit Manager in KPMG, where she led audit engagements across a diverse client portfolio.

Since 2018 she has been module co-ordinator for the following modules:

- ACF 117 - Principles of Financial Accounting (Level 4 module to the part-time students/degree apprentices)

- ACF 339 - Skills for Work (Level 5 module)

- ACF 360 - Risk Management (Level 5 module)

- ACF 517 - Audit and Assurance (Level 6 module)

- ACF 746 - Audit and Assurance (Level 7 module)

- ACF 703 - Audit, Assurance and Professional Ethics (Level 7 module).

She employs a range of interactive methods, case studies, hands on exercises, innovative assessments, and real-world applications to ensure students grasp the technical concepts in audit and assurance, risk management and financial accounting. She also re-designed the Level 5 'skills for work' module in 2019, and by leveraging her professional network she has consistenly secured active employer participation, with nine employers involved with the module in 2024.

She is commited to enhancing her teaching through continuous professional developement and active engagement in accounting pedagogy. She is currently pursuing a Master's in Education and regulalry partipates in workshops on accounting pedagogy and technology-enhanced learning. 

In April 2024, she was awarded Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) in recognition of her dedication to teaching excellence and leadership in higher education. 

Since 2018, she has served as an external examiner for the CPA Strategic Level Advanced Audit and Assurance Exams, and she has been a Lecturer for Chartered Accountants Ireland since 2017, teaching CAP 2 and FAE Advanced Audit and Assurance Elective.

She is very passionate about her role as Course Director of the BSc (Hons) Accounting with Management (Part time/Degree Apprenticeship) programme, and has significantly grew the student numbers on the programme through the various marketing activities she has carried out.

Over the last few years she has organised insight events and school conferences to the promote the programme, and she has presented at various University, School and Employer events. She now has 21 employers involved in the programme. The programme was also shortlisted for an 'Excellene in Education' Award at the Irish Accountancy Awards in May 2024, raising the profile of the University and the programme.
