Dr Kelly Norwood is a Lecturer in Psychology and the Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) scheme Co-ordinator within the School of Psychology. She is a fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a member of the Palliative Care Research Forum, Northern Ireland. Kelly completed her BSc and PhD (Biological Psychology) in the School of Psychology and held Research Fellow positions at Ulster University and Queen’s University Belfast. Kelly has worked on various projects which have investigated the neurobiology and evaluation, of new treatments of Alzheimer’s disease. She ran a randomised control trial funded by Dunhill Medical Trust ‘Nurse-led advance care planning with older people who have end-stage kidney disease: feasibility of conducting a deferred entry randomised controlled trial incorporating a mixed methods process evaluation (ACReDiT)’. Kelly’s research focuses on improving quality of life and end-of-life care for people living with chronic disease with a focus on dementia and end-stage kidney disease. Kelly works collaboratively with the Alzheimer’s Society, Northern Ireland, to develop interventions aimed at providing optimal care to those living with dementia. As PASS co-ordinator Kelly assists students in becoming mentors to lower year university students to ease the transition to university life, promote academic achievement and student wellbeing.
