Biography

Dr. Kazi Lutfar Rahman is a PhD Researcher at Ulster University in the Department of NICHE, Biomedical Science. His research focuses on determining serum Vitamin D status and systemic inflammatory burden as predictors of psoriasis patients receiving biologic therapy.

He formerly served as a Physiology Lecturer in various private and government medical colleges in Bangladesh. Aside from that, he is a medical ultrasound expert who has served as a senior lecturer and faculty in a medical ultrasound institute. He has also worked as an English language club instructor in a language learning centre.

In 2020, he received his Master of Philosophy in Physiology. He also earned a Bachelor of Medicine and a Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), along with a year of hospital internship.

He previously studied rs10741657 of the CYP2R1 gene in Bangladeshi people with low serum 25(OH)D levels. During his research, he performed DNA extraction, conventional PCR, optimization of a chosen primer, and established a novel standard operation procedure to examine a specific region of the CYP2R1 gene. In addition, he finished the Sanger sequencing of the specific study samples, and the valid sequences were published in 2020 on NCBI, the European Nucleotide Archive, and GenBank of Japan.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, he worked as a medical officer at a COVID-19 laboratory in a significant hospital in Bangladesh. He was a professional RT-PCR expert who contributed to the development of optimal RT-PCR methods using various reagents for coronavirus detection.

He was awarded the DfE Scholarship 2023 at Ulster University's Life and Health Science Department for his current research topic, "Vitamin D status and systemic inflammatory burden as a predictor of biologic treatment response in psoriasis".
