Biography

Professor Hui Wang, Professor of Computer Science, is Head of the Artificial Intelligence Research Group (2008-April 2020) and Research Director (June 2018-April 2020) in the School of Computing at Ulster University.

He obtained his BSc in Computer Science and MSc in Artificial Intelligence both from Jilin University, and his PhD in Artificial Intelligence from Ulster University. His research interests are machine learning, knowledge representation and reasoning, structural data analysis and applications (medical image analysis, face recognition, image hashing, information retrieval, food authentication). He has over 270 publications in these areas. He teaches Artificial Intelligence and Web Technologies recently. He is an associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Cybernetics, and an associate editor of The Computer Journal. He is the Chair of IEEE SMCS Northern Ireland Chapter (2009-2017), and a member of IEEE SMCS Board of Governors (2010-2013). He is principal investigator of a number of regional, national and international projects in the areas of image/video analytics (Horizon 2020 funded ASGARD, Horizon 2020 funded DESIREE, FP7 funded SAVASA, Royal Society funded VIAD), text analytics (INI funded DEEPFLOW, Royal Society funded BEACON); and is co-investigator of several other funded projects.
