Gulzar Alam is a Data Scientist at the Artificial Intelligence Collaboration Centre (AICC), Ulster University, Belfast. He specialises in designing and implementing AI-driven solutions to tackle complex real-world challenges across diverse sectors. By working closely with industry partners, Gulzar develops tailored AI solutions that improve processes, enhance efficiency, and drive innovation, bridging the gap between cutting-edge research and practical application.
Gulzar joined Ulster University in 2021 as a PhD researcher in Computing, funded through the Department for the Economy Studentship (International). His doctoral research focuses on evaluating the quality of open data and datasets in human activity recognition. Before joining Ulster, he worked as a Research Assistant at the Deanship of Scientific Research, King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), Saudi Arabia, contributing to multiple funded projects in cybersecurity, AI and software engineering.
He holds a Master’s degree in Software Engineering from KFUPM, supported by a fully funded scholarship from the Saudi Ministry of Education, and a Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering from the University of Malakand, Pakistan. During his academic journey, Gulzar also served as a Teaching Assistant in the Information and Computer Science Department at KFUPM.
With a Research Associate experience, Gulzar has contributed to the Smart Manufacturing Data Hub (SMDH) and the Advanced Research and Engineering Centre (ARC) in collaboration with PwC. His research outputs include patents, journal articles, and conference papers shared with the global research community.
His research interests include artificial intelligence with a particular focus on generative AI, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) development, process automation, data formalisation and quality.
In 2015, UN member states agreed to 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. This person’s work contributes towards the following SDG(s):
