Biography

Federico Cruciani holds a PhD in Computer Science from the Ulster University and a BScEng and a MScEng in Computer Engineering from the University of Florence (Italy). Between 2006-2016, he worked as a software project manager at I+ and Orthokey (Italy), developing medical device software for computer assisted orthopaedic surgery and rehabilitation. In 2016, he joined Ulster University as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellow in Computer Science. He is currently working as a Senior Research Fellow at Ulster University. Since 2020, he is leading some of the research streams in cybersecurity in the BT Ireland Innovation Centre (BTIIC), an innovative R&D partnership between BT and Ulster University. He is also a co-investigator in the Advanced Research Engineering Centre (ARC), partnership between PwC, Queen’s University, and Ulster University. Here, he is leading the research stream on using Large Language Models to support Risk Control Self-Assessment procedures.  He has published more than 30 articles in peer-reviewed scientific international conferences and journals, including the best paper award in 2021 in the academic journal Springer CCF Transaction on Pervasive Computing and Interaction. His research interests include AI and Deep Learning applications in eHealth, cybersecurity and Large Language Models for Natural Language Processing.
