Biography

My name is Eleni Asimakopoulou and currently I am a Research Associate in Fire and Materials at the Fire Safety Engineering and Technology Centre (FireSERT), School of the Built Environment of Ulster University (UU) since January 2017. I received my diploma in Mechanical Engineering in 2009, my MEng in Computational Mechanics from the Departments of Chemical, Mechanical, Civil, Naval and Applied Mathematics and Physical Science in 2011, and PhD in 2016 all from National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) in Greece. In 2019, I was awarded Associate Fellow in Higher Education.

Research Interests

My major research interests cover the computational and experimental investigation of fire spreading in buildings and façade systems, impact of phase change materials in fire development, material properties at elevated temperatures and solid reaction kinetics. Current research activities focus on flammability and fire testing of innovative foam and glazing systems, performance evaluation of fire resistance of complete full scale faced in furnace, preparation of interim and final project reports and presentations, preparation of scientific papers for peer review journals of a standard suitable for the REF, participation in national and international conferences for dissemination of research findings, attendance and participation in project meetings.
