Biography

Education: PhD Aeolian sediment transport dynamics, Ulster University, 1993; BSc Environmental Science, Ulster University, 1990, Elected Member of the Royal Irish Academy (2021), Elected Fellow Royal Geographical Society, Fellow Geological Society of London

Research interests: Professor Jackson's research has a general focus on coastal environmental change (morphodynamics and geomorphology) at a number of time and space scales. These link into themes such as climate change impacts, its associated sea level rise and increased storminess on coastlines. Ultimately much of the work he carries out helps in the development of responses to climate change and pressures on natural beach and dune systems globally. Specifically, the main focus of his work examines wind-blown processes and modelling of airflow in a variety of planetary environments in temperate through to arid zones. Recent developments on the airflow modelling theme have involved research of dune movement at a number of location on Mars, examining specific wind flow and dune landforms.
