Biography

Dr Debbie Rankin is a Lecturer in Computer Science and Course Director for the MSc Data Science at Ulster University in the School of Computing, Engineering and Intelligent Systems. She is a member of the Human Centred Computing research group and has over 30 published works. Debbie’s research and teaching interests include Artificial Intelligence, Synthetic Data, Health Informatics, Database Systems, Machine Learning, Immersive Technologies and Computer Vision. She teaches at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. Debbie received a B.Sc. (Hons) Computing (First Class) with Diploma in Industrial Studies, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science, both from Ulster University, Northern Ireland (UK) in 2008 and 2012, respectively. She joined the School of Computing, Engineering and Intelligent Systems in 2017 and was appointed as a Research Associate within the Intelligent Systems Research Centre in 2017 working on the Horizon 2020 funded MIDAS (Meaningful Integration of Data, Analytics and Services) project. She was appointed as a Lecturer in Computer Science in 2019. Debbie is Ulster’s Principal Investigator for the €14million Horizon Europe LUCIA project (LUng Cancer-related RIsk FActors And Their Impact Assessment), and is Co-Investigator on a number of other research grants.
