PhD Researcher Profile

Prior to his PhD, Dara has worked as a compositor and animator across multiple shows for a variety of broadcasters. Dara began his PhD in 2022 and has been a recipient of the Emru Townsend Award 2024 as well as being a finalist in the Ulster University 3MT (Three Minute Thesis). He is supervised by Dr Henry Melki and Dr Yuanyuan Chen. Dara has received his AFHEA (Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy).

Research Interests

Dara is currently undertaking his PhD research, "Recording How Queer Animators in Ireland Represent Their Collective Memory Through Character Design". The research is focused on how members of the LGBTQIA+ represent themselves using character design as a tool and subsequently exploring whether this research can then be implemented to allow for more inclusive representation.
