Dr César Navarro is a Research Associate at the Northern Ireland Connected Health Innovation Centre (CHIC) based at the Nanotechnology & Integrated BioEngineering Centre (NIBEC). His research activities involve the development of computer algorithms for detecting illnesses with results having been translated to commercial products. He also has experience in co-writing clinical protocols, statistical plans and grant applications. He liaises with physicians and researchers from different institutions and companies. He translates clinical information into mathematical models and computer programs in order to make devices and algorithms that are fit for purpose. He has a strong mathematical and programming background which has been useful in producing software and in solving problems involving databases, bio-signals and medical image analysis. César has published a number of academic papers and patents and has acted as the Co-Chair in several scientific conferences.Prior to his current position, Cesar worked for Heartsine Technologies, Belfast before which he was a Research Officer at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast working as part of in a multidisciplinary team that included Ulster University. He has also been a Lecturer in mathematics, computer programming and statistics at Universidad de Los Andes in Venezuela. He has also worked for PDVSA (the Venezuelan State oil company) as a programmer and database analyst.César has an MSc in Applied Mathematics from Universidad de Los Andes (1999) and a PhD in Biomedical Engineering (2003) from Ulster University.
