Biography

Brian is a Registered Nurse and cared for children and their families in the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children. He developed his career in learning and teaching and currently works as a lecturer in higher education practice.
Brian has expertise in all aspects of pedagogy and the influence it has on the student experience. He is particularly interested in, assessment and assessment redesign and how this produces evidence of learning outcome achievement. Academic self-efficacy, and the contribution it makes to confidence and motivation. Brian is currently focused on the impact that AI has on the university experience for staff and students.

 

Research Interests

Brian's research interests centre upon all aspects of pedagogy, academic self efficacy and the effect it has on student experiences of inclusion and success. 

Teaching Interests

Brian's teaching interests focus upon pedagogy, learning and teaching methods, curriculum design, learning outcome construction, assessment design/redesign, understanding and enhancing student engagement and evaluation techniques. He is particularly interested in enabling engagement through the development of inclusive practice.

He teaches on the PGCHEP and the MEd programme about enhancing assessment through redesign and leadership in higher education.
