Brian is a Registered Nurse and worked in the School of Nursing and Paramedic Science. He is currently a Lecturer in Higher Education Practice in the Centre for Professional Practice Enhancement.
Brian has expertise in all aspects of pedagogy and the influence it has on the student experience. He is particularly interested in artificial intelligence and the effect it has on the learning and teaching expereince for students and staff. As a registered professional Brian is committed to authentic assessment and using assessment as a motivator for learning as well as achievement. This ties in with his work on academic self-efficacy, and the contribution it makes to confidence and motivation.
Brian's research interests focus on enhancing pedagogy through action research with a focus on authentic and inclusive assessment. In particular he is interersted in academic self-efficacy, artificial intelligence and developing higher education literacies.
Brian's teaching expertise focuses on a creative and person centred approach to pedagogy, learning and teaching methods, curriculum design, learning outcome construction, assessment design/redesign, understanding and enhancing student engagement and evaluation techniques. He is particularly interested in enabling engagement through the development of inclusive practice.
Brian is the MEd Course Director, teaches a module about action research methodology and supervises MEd research projects. He also teaches on and assesses on the PGCHEP.
