Biography
Mrs Brenda McCarron is a lecturer in hospitality, HRM and leadership within the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management. In addition, she is the Collaborative Courses Co-ordinator for hospitality, tourism and events within the Ulster University Business School.Brenda studied for a degree in hospitality management. Following graduation, she worked in the local hospitality and events industry; before returning to university to complete a Postgraduate Certificate in Education in 1995 and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education in 1997. She was awarded the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development Professional Qualification in 2003 and completed an MSc in Human Resource Management in 2007. She is a Fellow of both the Higher Education Academy and the University’s Centre for Higher Education and Research Practice.Brenda commenced her lecturing career at the NI Hotel and Catering College in 1995, before joining the University in 2002. Her research interests at subject level lie in the challenges and opportunities facing human resource management within the hospitality and tourism industry.Her pedagogic research interests are currently focused on the use of digital technology for enhancing teaching and learning, assessment and feedback and she has published in this field. Her main teaching disciplines include Human Resource Management and Leadership within the service industries at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.Brenda is a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and the Council of Hospitality Management Education (CHME).
