Bernie is a Lecturer in Nursing and Academic Lead for Pre-registration Nursing and Paramedic Science. She brings almost 40 years of experience across nursing, midwifery, and public health nursing in both the UK and Ireland. Her diverse clinical career has spanned a wide range of roles, from working as a research midwife with the World Health Organization to supporting underserved communities through her work as a public health nurse in Traveller health. This breadth of experience has provided her with a deep understanding of healthcare delivery across clinical, community, research, and public health settings.
Bernie’s research interests predominantly focus on maternity care, public health, and community nursing, reflecting her extensive clinical expertise and commitment to improving health outcomes across diverse populations. The diversity of her research interests is reflected in her publications and her contributions to national and international conferences, policy forums, and professional networks, where she actively supports the translation of research evidence into practice, education, and healthcare policy.
