Biography
Aileen O'Dwyer is a PhD researcher in the School of Pyschology at Ulster University. Aileen completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology BSc (Hons) at Ulster University (June 2023) with a first.
Aileen's current area of research focuses on the psychosocial impact of a cancer diagnosis among adolescent and young adults (age 15-24 years) across the Island of Ireland. Using mixed-method approach, Aileen is seeking to gain insight into how a cancer diagnosis can impact young people's lives at a critical time in their development, understanding how healthcare and support professionals relate to young people with a cancer diagnosis and working with adolescents and young adults, healthcare professionals and caregivers to provide recommendations for support services across the island.
Within this project, Aileen will develop an asset map of current support service resources for children, adolescents, young adults and their families. This will highlight key areas of support available and gaps within services that currently exist.
The project is privately funded by The Children's Cancer Unit Charity, Belfast.
