Biography

Dr Leane Hoey graduated from Ulster University with a BSc (Hons) Consumer Studies, followed by a MSc and a PhD in Human Nutrition.  Leane worked as a Researcher in the area of B-vitamins, within the Nutrition Innovation Centre for Food and Health (NICHE) on a range of externally funded research projects between 2002-2013. She is currently a Lecturer in Human Nutrition within the School of Biomedical Sciences at Ulster University.

Leane’s research interest is focussed on B-vitamins involved in one-carbon metabolism and their effect on health outcomes, predominantly in older adults. Of note, she was involved in the co-ordination of the TUDA study (the Trinity, Ulster Department of Agriculture Aging Cohort study); a large study conducted on the island of Ireland on gene-nutrient interactions and diseases of aging. She is also interested in food fortification with B-vitamins.

Leane’s teaching interests include nutrition and health claims, food choice and consumer behaviour, nutrition through the lifecycle and dietary assessment. Leane is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) and member of the Nutrition Society.
