Title Ulster University Senior Lecturer Dr Poonam Singh Nigam graduated this week with a DSc in Microbial-Biotechnology at the Coleraine campus Country/Territory United Kingdom Date 13/04/22 Description Ulster University Senior Lecturer Dr Poonam Singh Nigam graduated this week with a DSc in Microbial-Biotechnology at the Coleraine campus.
Her DSc thesis summarises her scientific outputs and contributions since she received a PhD in Industrial Microbiology in 1985.
Poonam is a senior Lecturer in Biotechnology, having first joined Ulster University in 1990.
Her research interests lie in microbial-biotechnology – industrial and applied microbiology, and fermentation technology in the area of the environment, food and pharmaceuticals.
Despite previously receiving three other degrees in her career, this is an especially important day for Poonam because it will be the first time that she is able to attend her graduation ceremony and receive her award on the stage.
Poonam’s mother, Roopa, sadly passed away recently. Roopa was very proud, along with other members of her family abroad, to join the online celebration event for Postgraduate Researcher graduates that the Doctoral College hosted when graduation ceremonies were first paused two years ago, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and Roopa even made a video for that occasion.
Poonam shares with other researchers: “Chase your aspirations and never give up.”Persons Poonam Singh - Nee Nigam
