The publication of revised standards will not change the existing Defective Concrete Block scheme, but means a review must take place of the scheme within three months.
These revised standards come following work carried out by Professor Paul Dunlop and a research team in Ulster University.
Under current assessment schemes, a chartered engineer must still carry out an investigation on a home suspected to be suffering from damaged blocks. However, the revised standard will not necessarily require the presence of “pattern cracking” in the building.
