Description

Witches and Witchcraft: A Global Inclusive Interdisciplinary Conference

This inaugural conference offers a space for people from diverse disciplines, practices and professions to engage in inclusive interdisciplinary dialogues about the many facets of witches and witchcraft. From the conversations and dialogues which take place, our intention is to form a selective innovative interdisciplinary publication(s) and other outputs to engender further research and collaboration.

Reimagining the Islandmagee witch trial, Ireland, 1711: public history, gaming and graphic novels.

This panel comprises two interactive presentations and a question and answer session on two interlinked projects that will produce a game and a graphic novel based on the Islandmagee witch trial held in Co. Antrim, Ireland, in 1711. They will consider the process, challenges and rewards of adapting and turning academic, book-based historical research into interactive, inclusive formats with wider, intergenerational and cultural appeal for non-academic readers and players. It will consider the benefits of collaboration and interdisciplinarity in facilitating the public exploration of historic witch trials, and as a vehicle to open dialogue about present-days issues of gender, discrimination, social inclusion/exclusion, and personal choice during religious and political crisis.
