Description
Conference WorkshopThe Walking Studio: Life all Around Us
Our guest from Ulster University, Dr Pamela Whitaker, introduced the Walking Studio as a wayfaring composition — the art of discovering surroundings and places that mean something along a route of shared travel and companionship. Participants were invited to make something of their walking encounters by collecting words and images that map experience, conversations, and contemplations. Field recordings were also be encouraged.
The practices and strategies of walking artists were be featured, along with ideas associated to psychogeography, place identity and spatial narratives. The intention was to document lines of travel within surroundings that get noticed and represented within a mapping of experience. The art of walking is a way to locate ourselves within our surroundings, and to make with what we find along the way.
