Description
To celebrate the spooky season, we will be showing the cult classic, The Witch: A New England Folktale (2015), BBFC 15, directed by Robert Eggers. The Witch is a chilling tale of a family and community in colonial New England torn apart by the forces of evil, possession and witchcraft. The film will be followed by a panel discussion led by Dr Andrew Sneddon (Ulster University), a leading authority on the history of witchcraft and its cultural representations. He will be joined by leading experts on modern fiction, Dr Stephen Butler (English, Ulster University), on folk horror, Dr Victoria McCollum (Cinematic Arts, UU), and award-winning writer and film director, Aislinn Clarke, best known for The Devil’s Doorway (2018), Childer (2016), and Eye Exam (2020).They will chat about the film, its themes, construction and relationship to literature, horror, wider culture and real witch trials.
