Prof Rory O'Connell delivered a paper 'The ECtHR in an age of populism and democratic backsliding: what role for non-discrimination and positive obligations?' at the Copenhagen and Edinburgh conference 'The Guarantor of European Democracy? Interrogating the European Court of Human Rights’ Role in Democracy Consolidation in Europe'. The paper built on the arguments in Rory's book Law, Democracy and the European Court of Human Rights (Cambridge 2020).
