Description
This roundtable discussion will debate the expanded potential of art therapy to incorporate creative health research. It will describe how art therapy training can recognise art and design and health research in order to offer enhanced choice for art therapy service users. Art therapy research and training can incorporate health promotion, health advocacy and the mapping of community health assets. At the centre of the art therapy continuum is a dedication to ethical practices aimed at co-production and anti-oppressive practices that value lived experience. In the UK art therapists are registered as allied health professionals with an ethical duty to work in partnership with service users (Health and Care Professions Council, 2023). Team working and professional alliances are essential for healthcare respecting the perspectives and choices of lived experience expertise. Creative health offers an additional vocabulary for art therapists which can provide assistance in developing both research and practice protocols. This discussion group will debate how to best influence creative health, while still maintaining the professional standards, ethics and protocols of the profession. The purpose of the discussion is to challenge divisions between health professionals and to provide a case for how art therapy can be an influential provider for creative health services.| Period | 4 Jul 2025 |
