Description
How can technology be part of a sustainable future for Rathlin? The Future Island-Island project is looking at how cutting-edge design concepts can help Rathlin, and potentially communities all over Northern Ireland, live sustainably and tackle the climate crisis. This exhibition is the first chance to take a look at what the designers and engineers are cooking up.Spoiler alert – there will be a 3D printer having a go at reproducing a familiar-looking Rathlin brooch…
This talk provides an overview for conceptual design research ideas produced in response to an early community engagement process. It introduces a public exhibition of works that includes Product Design and Architectural responses. The exhibition was open for eight days in the Manor House, Rathlin. 68 sketchbooks were also shared with the community enabling applied co-design methodology through a critique workbook and ideation platform. The designs by Prof Justin Magee (Ulster University), Stephen McGilloway, Jonny Weir, Daria Rybak and Matt Magowan (BigSmall Design), were specifically influenced by discussions with Rathlin Island residents, and influenced by specific discussions with Paddy Bloomer, Kate Burns, Benji McFaul, Fergus McFaul and Philip McFaul.
