A research essay that examines emerging practices in contemporary Photography in Ireland. Taking as its focus the 17 contemporary artists who were invited by the Royal Hibernian Academy (Dublin) to exhibit in Autumn 2025, the essay considers tendencies and preoccupations emerging as artists foregrounding photography in their practice examine with contemporary and evolving themes. The research also considers the varied approaches to narrative, installation and moving images which now proliferate in Ireland when addressing questions of gender, representation, economic geographies and migration. The essay was published as the opening text for Archipelago catalogue on 23 October 2025
