‘Reimagining The Islandmagee Witches: An Interactive Exhibition’, Carrickfergus Museum

Activity: Other

Description

This, the first exhibition dedicated to an Irish witch trial, explores the story of the 'Islandmagee witches' convicted of witchcraft in County Antrim in 1711. Based on the historical research and creative practice of UU researchers, it uses objects of material culture, historical texts, maps, visual imagery, and the creative and digital outputs of 'Islandmagee Witches 1711 Creative and Digital Project' (w.1711.org): graphic novel, VR, video game, animation, original score. It also incorporates a bespoke art installation. It was funded by Ulster University, AHRC, Connected NI, and Mid and East Antrim Council.
Due to its success, the exhibition moved to the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland in January 2024 for a two month-long run, and back to Carrickfergus Museum in October 2024. It was converted into the Islandmagee Witches' Hub in November 2024.
